Flashback Friday: Snow Days!

Hello everyone!!

Well, Northeast Ohio is famous for its Lake Effect Snow, and since it is January, I thought I would share some layouts of winters' past here. You can never tell how each winter will treat you here. One winter, it's snowfall after snowfall. Others, like this year (so far), it's pleasantly mild! I like when it snows and then melts the next day. But, I guess when I was a kid, I didn't have to worry about driving in the hot mess of snow, so I rather enjoyed it all.

I chose the word BELIEVE.

It's here! The end of 2011. This year was crazy! It had great highs and very low lows. But, I'm looking forward to starting fresh in 2012. I'm going to take things one day at a time, and be grateful for everything I have and everyone I love.

Oh boy.... it's only 2 weeks until Christmas! Time is just flying by!

Things are coming together for me here: I've been taking photos everyday documenting my December. The Christmas photos have been taken (I'm just narrowing them down now). The cards are ready for me to add those photos onto them. The trees are decorated. Some cookies have been made-and eaten!! :)

I wanted to share another little mini album I made to put some of my December photos in. This is just a small book with 6 pages inside. For a great tutorial on how to make your own, see Elizabeth Kartchner's album here. This is such a great way to use up scraps, and it's so easy to make! (I've made like 5 different versions of this mini!)

I think this mini will have a specific theme, though I haven't totally made my mind up yet! I like to create mini albums, but sometimes I don't have particular photos in mind for it. :)

December Mini Album #1

Happy December!!! I can't believe it's here.

I love this time of year... and I get so excited seeing all the bloggers/scrappers December Dailies out there. I'll be documenting this month, for sure, too!

The album I'm sharing today is an Envelope Album. I have six different, decorated envelopes in the album, and I'll be printing out my photos and writing down the details on the backs of the photos, and then add them to an envelope. I can already tell I'm not gonna have a lot of extra time to put together an elaborate album, so I think this cute little book will suit me just fine! :)

I have also made a couple other special mini albums just for Christmas, and I'll share them shortly! :)

Holiday Tree Fest '11

I have really enjoyed making this album- there were some really great techniques used and I love all the textures in the album! I had to improvise on some of the pages, but I got to use up some of my stash!! This album is a perfect reminder of all I'm thankful for.

Flashback Friday: Holiday Tree Festival

My family and I have attended this event every year since I was a little girl. Our local Children's Hospital sponsors the annual Holiday Tree Festival every November. I still love going to see the trees every year! When I was little, I liked going to see all the sparkly trees- now I like to go because it inspires my own holiday decorating!

I celebrated my 29th birthday on Wednesday... it was a lovely day! I spent the day scrapping and starting to decorate for Christmas, then went out shopping and to dinner. I wrapped up the day with some delicious chocolate cake & ice cream! Oh, and I got presents too! :)

I got to spend the day with my mom... the reason I exist in the first place! She always knows how to make me feel special!

Well. This is it. I am entering my last year of my twenties today. I am looking forward to this year.

As I look back, I can see how much I have grown over the past decade, and I know how much I want to continue to grow and change.

28 was a challenging year for me. It was a year of change. A year filled with little blessings. A year filled with a lot of tears. A year of good times spent with loved ones. A year of missing some of those loved ones. A year full of growth. A year of new experiences. A year of standing up for what's right. A year of believing in truth and love.

I hope that 29 is good to me. :)

Child Of Fall

I didn't used to like being a November baby. I always wanted to have a fun, summer birthday so I could have big parties outdoors. Over the years I've grown to like having a birthday late in the year. It's so close to so many great holidays. It's a festive time of year. might as well squeeze a special day in there that's just for me. Happy Friday everyone! As I was thinking about what pictures to share this week.... I started looking through some old bird photos. I love looking at their baby pictures and seeing how they've grown. My pretty babies! :)

November Daily

I just thought about this project that I did last November, and I thought I would share it! I cannot believe it's been a year since I did 'a month in the life' album!

Last November, I decided to record the events of the month in this cute journal I got at Barnes & Noble. I decorated the cover, and then added notebook papers and pictures of the month as it went along.

I printed out a calendar and wrote down my work schedule for the month and other important dates, like Thanksgiving and my birthday. I also had a page with the weather and what I had for dinner each night.

I wrote down 2-4 sentences in the evening every day, explaining what I did that day and where I went. I also had a page of important news events.

I printed out pictures of different newspaper front pages, and a picture of the Thanksgiving Day ads. I also included lots of pictures from during the month.

It was a fun project.... but if you're going to do a project like this, you have to stay on top of it every day, because time slips away very easily! Don't make it a chore, but make it a habit.
It's fun to look back at, even just a year later.... so I imagine in 5 years it will be even more cool to read and see what my life was like every day.
I'm contemplating doing this kind of project again soon....

2X The Fun

Hi everyone! I'm stopping by to share some layouts that I've never shared before. They all have one thing in common--- they're double page spreads!

I rarely do 12 X 24 layouts for a few reasons:

1. that's a huge space to fill!

2. it takes up even more room in my albums than a single page layout

3. it's hard to photograph well enough to share

But, despite these reasons, I like these large layouts every once in a while because sometimes it helps to tell a story better if you have a large canvas. Also, when I have several pictures I want to feature, but I don't want to shrink them to an itty bitty size, these 12 X 24 spreads come in handy.

This layout below was an experiment to see how a layout would look vertically. I think if you have the right story, it can look cute!

Looking back on these layouts kinda makes me want to make some more larger than life layouts again!

Happy Sunday everyone!!

I have a couple albums to share with you today! Back in May, I took a Something Splendid class (by Elizabeth Kartchner). The Envelope Book class was so much fun! It's such a cool way to store some fun notes and pictures I've been saving up over the years. Here are two albums I've made so far (another one's on the way!) using what I learned from the class.

This one is the first book I made.... it's very girly and I included lots of little notes, and Ziggy cartoons, and pictures of my loves inside the album.

Cool fact: The glassine envelopes I used, well it took me a few months to find these! lol!! But, I finally found some at this cool prim country store we frequent. They were a bargain too- and came with lots of ribbon, as well as pre-stamped! Score! :)

I made this album for my mom's birthday. I used Basic Grey Life of the Party papers, and K & Co. diecut pieces. Inside the envelopes, I included my fave pics of my mom throughout the years, and some confetti to fall out of the envelopes as well!

I cut the pictures into the shape of Polaroid pictures for fun. :)

This was a fun class- definitely check it out if you get a chance!

Flashback Friday: Homecoming
It's that time of year, so I thought it would be fun to take a look back at my Homecoming, from my Junior year of high school. I only went to one Homecoming, just so I could say I had that experience. I had so much fun getting all dressed up. I actually got my dress from a shopping trip we went on in Pennsylvania. No one else had my dress, for sure! :) I felt like a princess!! I also loved my sky high strappy shoes too! I wore them at my Senior Prom as well, and they left such red marks on my feet! lol!!

Flashback Friday: Bringing Jake Home

Five years ago this month, we adopted Jake! She was a little sweetie pie! We found her at a wonderful local bird shop, complete with a nursery for the babies. We knew we just had to have her the first time we saw her.... so we made a deposit and waited for her to be big enough to be able to come home with us.

After we brought her home, we had to finish weening her with baby bird food. This was such a sweet experience, and helped her bond to us. Looking back on these photos, I can't believe how little she was, with big black eyes and lots of fluff instead of feathers! Now she's grown so much.... we ♥ our little Jakey girl! :)

I've had a dedicated craft space since 2007.... I thought it might be fun to look back at how my scrap space has evolved.... and grown!

welcome to scrap land!

At first, I just stored my supplies in an old trunk..... but as I added tools and new things, I needed some room to spread out.....

So then, I had a nice location in the basement- with a desk and large table.

Of course, I had taken over a good part of the basement within a few months..... it was time to move on.

I then moved upstairs into a spare bedroom (where I still am 3 years later!). I was excited to have plenty of room to expand!

A little decorating and painting made the room even better for me! :)

Last year, I added two large bookcases to store my stuff!

I also got new carpet last year- everything was packed up! It was a ton of work, but I got to redecorate again! :)

This is how my room looks this year- but I am in the process of purging old stuff and reworking the walls right now- new pictures coming soon!! :)

September marks 14 years since her Butterfly album came out--- my most favorite MC cd ever!!

It's funny how certain music can take you back to where you were when you first heard it......
I was a freshman in high school when Butterfly came out.
I was a freshman in college when Glitter came out. (Hey, there is actually some good music on that cd!) lol!
I was a month away from graduating from college when The Emancipation of Mimi was released.
I was in 7th grade and got straight A's on my report card, so I got Daydream as a reward.

If you've ever visited my blog before, you know I love to share pictures of my birdies. :)

I have to say, sometimes it's quite the scene to get some good pics of these kids! It takes love, toys, bribery, treats, and the right amount of sunlight to capture these moments! I have to make sure they are comfortable, and not near an object that will scare the daylights out of them! Of course, just the telephone ringing gets 'em screaming! LOL!! They are little wiggleworms sometimes, but other times they sit there and pose like naturals for the camera. I love having pictures of myself with my birdies.... they are my kids after all.

And when I get photos like these, it's all worth it.

Hello everyone!! It's Friday! :)

Just wanted to share a cute little mini album I put together, and also celebrate Flashback Friday. For this album, I used those pretty packaging backers that come with Prima flowers & accessories. They're just too pretty to discard.... so I decorated them with Prima papers and added some old photos.

I love these pics- my mom took them for me before I was in 6th grade. I was always into soap operas, and this was also around the time of the tv show, Models Inc. - I wanted to have a fun photo shoot in pretty clothes too... so these are my 'modeling' pictures. I edited them in iphoto, to give them a dreamy effect.

Hello!! Just wanted to stop by & share a few more layouts I made for the This & That class I took by Kara. I really, really enjoyed this class & I have made loads of new layouts in the past few weeks. Just sharing a few of my faves today...

This layout is for someone special that I miss ♡... I couldn't find a picture that fit, so I used this lovely ad instead. It fit perfectly. Features hidden journaling.

This layout is about my nickname, Jenna. ;)

The challenge for this layout was to find a cool album cover. I love this one by Joni Mitchell. I love the emotion in the painting, and the bright colors too.

This layout was supposed to feature coffee stains, but I don't drink coffee! :) I improvised and used a doily template and Glimmer Mist! ( I do have a favorite Vera mug though!!)

So.... I've seen this done elsewhere before....... and it seems like a cool idea for me to start my own '30 before 30' list now. I've got exactly 15 months until I turn 30. So that gives me plenty of time to accomplish many things.

Hello everyone!!

Lately, I haven't really been in the mood to make big ole layouts..... so instead, I've been making some cards. It's something I really didn't think I was good at and/or not a big enough surface to get my idea across.

But, lately, I've been looking at several different stationery books.... and I have been inspired! Making cards doesn't take nearly as long as a layout might, and frankly, they're just cute and fun little things to make & pass along to brighten someone else's day! :)

The possibilities with cards is limitless-- you can make them as funky or as simple as you want- and you can use up some scraps you've been hoarding too! :)

I am so addicted to music..... right now, I have Blake Shelton's new album, Red River Blue on repeat on my ipod. I have really grown to love his music even more since seeing him in concert in June.
I looooove this album!

Today I got to spend the day with my mom- we went out shopping & made some damage!! So much fun! Now, I'm off to sort through my new goodies- and I got a cute little secretary desk- it is adorable! :)

Paper!

Oh man, when I saw TAAFOMFT was having their final challenge, I knew I had to play along. I remember participating when the site was brand new- so I had to make something for the last challenge too!

This is my current favorite collection---- my paper stash!!! If you would have told me 5 or 6 years ago I would own this much fancy paper, I would have laughed at you! Who collects paper? Well, I do now!! :)

I'll certainly miss TAAFOMFT, but I'm sure from time to time I'll check the blog out to be inspired by the past challenges!

Hi everyone!!!! Happy July!!!!

I'm stopping by today to share From Screen 2 Scrap's new challenge! This month's poster is All About Eve. I loved it, in part because I looove Marilyn! :) Hope all of you can join in, there are lots of cool prizes!
Just create a layout based on the poster... and add these criteria on your layout as well for bonus points:
1 extra point- Use 4 colorful arrows
2 extra points- Use hearts
3 extra points- Use 1/2 or 1/4 of a face from a photo

Here's my layout, "Stages". I included a few photos from various points in my life so far.
